Andrew Withington
Musical Director

Previously Director of the Christchurch Boys' Choir, and currently Director of the NZ Secondary Students' Choir, Andrew recently gained a first class Masters Degree in Choral Conducting under Karen Grylls. He is a lecturer at the NZ Graduate School of Education.

Patrick

Patrick Shepherd
Assistant Musical Director (Instrumetal Groups)
Orchestra

Patrick Shepherd is a senior lecturer in Music Education at the University of Canterbury . Well-known as a composer, conductor, performer and adjudicator, Patrick is a graduate of Manchester , London and Canterbury universities and holds a licentiate and fellowship from Trinity College , London . As well as regular performances and broadcasts in New Zealand his works have been performed in Russia , USA , UK , South Korea and China . He has conducted the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra, Christchurch Youth Orchestra, Garden City Symphony Orchestra and currently conducts the Camerata Strings. He enjoys working with young people and is a passionate advocate for New Zealand music.

Susan

Susan Frost
Massed Choirs

Susan's love of singing began as a child when she sang in the festival special choir. She became a foundation member of the National Youth Choir and now teaches at Wairakei school, has trained school choirs for many years and has been a massed conductor at the North West Music Festival.

Patrick

Grant Bartley
Concert Band

Grant is Assistant HOD of Music at Cashmere High School and Director of Music at ‘St. Mary’s in the City’ in Christchurch. He frequently works as an organist, accompanist and conductor around Christchurch and New Zealand. In addition to conducting many groups at Cashmere High School he frequently conducts groups at CSM such as the Sinfonia and Christchurch Youth Orchestra. Grant is also the accompanist for the NZ Secondary Students Choir.

Kate Hays

Kate Hays
Senior Choir

Kate is HoD Music at Shirley Boys' High School. She has made a name for herself in national music circles for the quality of the singing that her school choirs at Palmeston North Boys' High School and Rangi Ruru Girls' School have achieved in competitions. She was a member the National Youth Choir for 10 years and also has experience on the stage and directing musicals.

Sharyn

Sharyn Hay
Junior Choir

Sharyn is currently the Principal of CREATE School of Arts and the Children's Minister at City New Life Church. She has a background in primary teaching, school/church choirs, private singing tuition and loves inspiring children to sing!

Genny

Genevieve Long
Recorder Ensemble

Genny has conducted the Recorder Ensemble for many years, and is our longest serving conductor. She enjoys playing her trombone, teaching recorder and flute, and has spent 2011 completing her GradDipTeaching (secondary) through Massey University.

Elizabeth

Elizabeth Muschamp
Accompanist

Elizabeth has been involved in Music Teaching for the past 30 years and is presently working as a Music Specialist at Russley Primary School.

William Frost

William Frost
Assistant conductor

William has been involved in music from an early age. He obtained his ATCL Diploma in Flute in 2008 and was a member of the winning trio in the 2010 National Chamber Music Competitions. He is a former member of the New Zealand Secondary Students' Choir, a current member of the National Youth Choir and the conductor of the Chorus at Medbury School.

Josh McGirr

Josh McGirr
Assistant Conductor

Josh has been playing trumpet since he was 12 and singing in choirs since the beginning of his schooling life. He has been a member of the New Zealand Secondary Students Choir and is currently a member of the National Youth Choir under the directorship of Karen Grylls. He is also Co-Musical Director of the Christchurch Boys Choir and is delighted to be joining the Christchurch Schools Music Festival massed choir team under the tutelage of Andrew Withington.
