Lions Club

Programme for 2010

TThis year's theme for the 2010 Christchurch Schools' Music Festival is:

Time, Theatre and Tales

Time represents the period of time over which our musical choices range. The earliest work comes from the text of Carmina Burana where the words of O Fortuna were penned as a poem in the 14th Century! Our latest musical compositions are two songs composed in 2009 for the Festival by Richard Oswin.

Theatre represents the number of works from music theatre such as works from Annie Get Your Gun, Oliver, Lady Be Good. Who would deny that We are the World (by Michael Jackson and Lionel Ritchie) was not theatrical in it's powerful presentation in 1985 by the super-group of pop stars!

Tales represents the number of stories which have been either set to music or inspired by stories. Richard Oswin has set to music two delightful poems from Christchurch author, Jon Gadsby. I'd Do Anything and Who Will Buy comes from the tales of Dicken's, Oliver Twist. Of course, the negro spiritual Go Down Moses describes events in the old testament. Sail On Little Boat is an ancient Chinese folk tale arranged in a contemporary setting.

We trust you enjoy this journey of Time, Theatre and Tales.
